How an Icon Is Born: The True Story of SANTO POP®
Share
Can a sacred icon, venerated for centuries, become a symbol of pop culture? Can Neapolitan tradition, so rich and profound, meet 3D printing technology?
The answer is yes. And its story is called SANTO POP® .
The Spark: San Gennaro Meets Design
It all started with an idea, a vision. I'm Vitale Leonardi, a computer expert since the Commodore 64 era, and I've always had my hands full at my family's digital printing business, Print Art. My passion has always been one: creating something new, combining my digital skills with my deep love for my city, Naples.
It was March 2024 when, one day, I asked myself: what would our patron saint, San Gennaro, look like if he were reinterpreted with the clean, modern, and captivating style of collectible icons? From that question, the first San Gennaro Pop was born : a respectful yet innovative tribute, blending the solemnity of his figure with a language that speaks to everyone.
The success was immediate. Friends, customers, enthusiasts: everyone saw in that small design object a new, fresh, and original way to celebrate our identity.
The Challenge That Shaped the Brand
But like every beautiful Neapolitan story, there were challenges. The success of San Gennaro Pop attracted unwanted attention: an artisan cast one of my original pieces and began reproducing it in ceramic.
Seeing your idea copied, seeing someone else enriched by your creativity, is deeply wounding. But what could have been the end was actually the beginning of everything. That anger transformed into determination. I understood that the idea wasn't just good, it was exceptional. And it needed to be protected, promoted, and expanded.
The Birth of a Universe
Since then, I have done three things:
-
I have officially registered the SANTO POP® trademark to protect my creativity.
-
I realized I shouldn't have stopped at San Gennaro. Naples is a universe of icons.
-
I began to bring the whole family to life: the genius of Totò , the blue heart of Diego , the myth of Parthenope , the soul of Pulcinella and all the others.
There is only one original: beware of imitations.
The birth of SANTO POP® in March 2024 marked the beginning of a new way of interpreting Neapolitan culture. Unfortunately, our success has also inspired numerous imitators.
We want you to be sure you're taking home an authentic piece, the fruit of our passion and hard work. How can you recognize it? It's simple: look for our SANTO POP® logo . Only original products bear our registered trademark, a guarantee of quality, creativity, and respect for the idea that inspired it all.
Our Mission Today
Today, SANTOPOP is more than just a collection of figurines. It's a digital craft project that celebrates the soul of Naples in all its forms. Each piece is designed and 3D printed in our workshop, with care and passion.
It's our way of telling the world that our culture is not a museum piece, but a living and inexhaustible source of inspiration.
Thank you for being part of this story. When you choose an original SANTO POP, you're not just buying an object. You're supporting a dream, protecting creativity, and taking home an authentic piece of our hearts.
